Congratulations to fourth grader Veronica Gonzalez

Congratulations to fourth grader Veronica Gonzalez from Mr. Barker’s class. Veronica was a top finalist in the annual Bookstock writing contests. This year’s topic was “Who is your favorite book character?”  Veronica won a trophy and a cash prize for her effort. The following is her essay:

My favorite character is Horton hears a who. I like him because he is funny, helpful and kind. The first reason why I like Horton is because he is funny. He is funny because he always make people laugh by accident. He is a teacher and always make the kids laugh.

Another reason why I like Horton is because he is helpful. When the Who’s were in trouble he warned them and he helped them. In the book Horton the elephant say’s to everyone listen closely and they heard a little voice. Horton had save the who’s. He even helped his enemies. In the book one of his enemies was a woman kangaroo, and he still helped her.

The last reason why I like Horton is because he is kind. He could of just left the who’s on the spect of dusk, but he save there lives by  flower. Horton is always kind because he always courages the animals from the forest he lives in. When one of his students didn’t really listen he was kind and had patience. So that is why my favorite character is Horton hears a who.
