Chess is a fun and concentrating board game for all ages. In the Harms Elementary School Chess club the students mostly play over-the-board chess. Most of their games are part of knock-out, Swiss, round-robin, or team tournaments, in order to give more importance to the result of each game. We also play on a kid-friendly website. In the past, we have competed in the Detroit Metro League Tournament, held at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, in which we competed against students from other Detroit public and charter schools. Usual training activities include solving puzzles that show the art of sacrificial and other types of combinations. The coach also focuses on one-on-one endgame study.
